Mammograms as part of annual exams

By on October 7th, 2022 in Breast Health

As part of annual exams, Dr Goldstein, the best obgyn in Manhattan, recommends that women have a mammogram as part of their exam and to monitor their breast health. However, Mammography is only as good as the equipment employed and the people performing and interpreting the study.

The mammography facilities that Dr Goldstein recommends do not simply have a technician do a study and then later have a physician come by and read images, and then having to decide if it is necessary to call the patient back for further evaluation. The best facilities (the ones Dr Goldstein recommends) do not let the patient leave until all issues have been reconciled and this often involves a spot film or compression film or ultrasound when necessary.

Most good facilities will have a “double read” (two physicians) and some even include a clinical breast exam and the doctor speaking to the patient. This way there are no “false negative” studies where people with early cancers go undetected.

At Dr Goldstein’s practice, individualized patient care is the standard. Each patient will see Dr Goldstein from the beginning to the end of their visit. Dr Goldstein personally performs each examination, procedure and ultrasound.
