Here is a very brief summary of conditions for which you should see Dr. Goldstein:
Abnormal Uterine bleeding – Dr. Goldstein led the charge for non-invasive methods of diagnosis over painful surgeries and invasive procedures. He believes in the liberal use of transvaginal ultrasounds and sonohysterograms (which he personally conducts) for the diagnosis of painful, heavy bleeding from periods, post menopausal bleeding, abnormal uterine bleeding, and more.
Menopause – Dr. Goldstein is a Certified Menopause Practitioner, President of the International Menopause Society, and a past President of the North American Menopause Society. He has helped thousands of women through the menopause stage of their lives, discussing the changes occurring in their bodies and developing treatment plans for them to cope with their symptoms of menopause.
Bone loss is one of the consequences of a lack of estrogen as a woman enters into or is in menopause. Dr. Goldstein is the Co Director of Bone Densitometry and Body Composition at NYU Langone Medical Center and is well experienced in addressing bone loss and muscle wasting (sarcopenia) during menopause.
Hormone Replacement Therapy – Dr. Goldstein uses HRT while working with menopausal women to help them alleviate the symptoms of menopause. The key is healthy aging and helping to maintain the overall health of the woman. The bones, skin, heart all suffer when the body stops making estrogen. HRT is not one size fits all, each woman is different, so Dr. Goldstein works with every woman to determine the best course of treatment for them. He does not recommend the Bioidentical Hormones compounded by a pharmacist, but recommends Selective Estrogen Receptor Modulators (SERMs) among other means of alleviating the symptoms of menopause.
Annual Exams – Dr. Goldstein offers comprehensive annual exams and discusses all the gynecologic challenges you are facing or questions you may have. The stage of life you are in is important, as some are approaching perimenopause or menopause. Breast health, bone health are some of the additional issues discussed.
Gynecologic cancer screenings – Dr. Goldstein evaluates abnormal pap smears, screens for cervical cancer, ovarian cancer and more.
Pregnancy Monitoring – Dr. Goldstein is a firm believer in early pregnancy monitoring via transvaginal ultrasound to make sure the pregnancy is meeting all its milestones. An early detection of a failed pregnancy can help a patient avoid the emergency room in favor of elective procedures which can help determine why the pregnancy failed via chromosomal analysis.
Second opinions on surgery – If you have been told to have an endometrial biopsy, do not. Dr. Goldstein warns that these procedures are invasive, painful and expensive. He prefers to use non-invasive measures such as painless transvaginal ultrasounds to evaluate a condition first.
Many women are enduring being recommended for painful, surgical procedures as a first means of diagnosis, even though these biopsies miss cancerous conditions. If you’ve been told you need a biopsy by your gynecologist, see Dr. Goldstein for a second opinion.
